I had the opportunity earlier this month to moderate a panel at the MIT Crowds & Climate Conference. We had an interesting conversation about how the panelists are trying to mobilize moms, bird lovers, and other communities to care about climate change — and to take action.
These groups (and others) are doing interesting work on awareness raising and, perhaps, a culture shift around behavior and perception — but I’m also interested in what it will take for these community-based/grassroots efforts to have an actual impact on greenhouse gas emissions, energy technologies, policies, etc. I wrote about this a little over the summer in my piece about how the “maker movement”, and I look forward to doing more after this fellowship year. I think there’s still lots of interesting work to be done here.
