In the course of reporting on robotics startups over the past year, I met multiple companies doing really interesting work that were leveraging ROS to bring their ideas to life. Clearpath, Rethink Robotics, Unbounded Robotics, Neurala, Blue River Technologies, HERE – all are among the growing number of companies that are using OSRF’s free, open source operating system to build (or support) their next-generation technologies. I chatted with OSRF’s CEO Brian Gerkey about the product’s history — and its future, getting a sneak peek at the forthcoming system update, ROS 2.0.
